Ahead of Texas’ 2023 legislative session, the Texas Center for Justice and Equity released a community-driven policy agenda focused on closing youth prisons, preventing system involvement for kids and adults, and creating better outcomes for Texans during and after incarceration.
After the 88th regular legislative session ended in May, we updated our supporters with an e-newsletter and shared the list of positive justice-oriented bills that were still moving or had become law on our blog.
Later this year, we'll release a bill analysis guide explaining how these new laws will impact Texans.
After a punitive session where state leaders prioritized many bills that would increase harm rather than helping more people succeed, we are more committed than ever to the future we're fighting for: one where no child is incarcerated, where every person has meaningful opportunities, and where the inherent worth of each and every Texan is recognized and celebrated.
